Shannon & Ben’s Laid-Back City Wedding with a Botanical Twist 🌿🌆

Date: 22 November 2024

Ceremony: Glasgow Botanic Gardens

Reception: VEGA, Glasgow

Photographer: Lena Sabala

Some weddings just feel like the couple. Shannon and Ben’s day was the perfect example—cool, personal, full of joy, and completely stress-free (despite the Baltic November weather). From a flower-making night with her bridesmaids to riding the Glasgow Subway in full wedding attire, Shannon threw the rulebook out the window and made magic by doing things their way.

We asked Shannon to tell us a bit more about the day…

Tell us where you got married and why you chose your venues?

Shannon:We had our ceremony at Glasgow Botanic Gardens—the setting was beautiful, and it felt intimate without being stuffy. It was also super convenient for our guests being in the West End. For the reception, we went to VEGA Glasgow, which gave us that modern, city vibe we love. The rooftop views, privacy, and photo ops were incredible.

What was the best thing about the day?

Can I say everything? The whole day was so unapologetically us. We felt relaxed and present—we got to talk to each other and to every guest without ever feeling rushed. The day was laid-back and personal, with a few fun touches thrown in to keep it light. Nothing felt too “wedding-y,” and that made it feel even more special.

And the worst?

Honestly? Just the cold! But we knew it was a risk with a November wedding in Scotland—so no regrets.

Tell us about the dress 😍

Unbridaled had exactly the kind of dresses I was looking for—and I feel like it’s one of the only places in Scotland that really gets modern bridal. My dress was everything I could’ve hoped for: romantic and whimsical, with a contemporary feel. The floral appliqué was so beautiful, and it tied in with the Botanic Gardens setting perfectly.

I’m normally very indecisive, so I was dreading dress shopping—but when I found the one, I had this rare moment of certainty. Every time I came back to try it on, I loved it even more.

Dress status: Under budget 🙌

You did a few non-traditional things on the day—tell us more!

We did quite a few! After the ceremony, we grabbed a hot coffee from the food truck at the Botanic Gardens (it was freezing). Then, instead of hiring a car, we all hopped on the Glasgow Subway to head to the reception—which turned into a hilarious, joyful part of the day.

Before dinner, Ben and I did a quick outfit change and had a pillow fight photoshoot. It was a fun release after the nerves of the ceremony and gave us a chance to reset before the evening kicked off.

What advice would you give to future brides?

  • Take your time. The right dress will find you.

  • Pick calm, positive people to bring to your appointment—they’ll help you listen to yourself.

  • And finally: let go of the small stuff. I got so caught up in tiny details in the lead-up, and none of them mattered on the day.

Final shoutouts?

Shannon, you were an absolute vision, and we’re so happy you found your dress with us. Your day was the perfect reminder that relaxed, personal weddings are often the most unforgettable. 💫
